Measles is a highly infectious disease that can lead to serious illness. One in five children who catch the disease are hospitalised, and on rare occasions it can prove fatal.
The MMR vaccine remains the safest and most effective way to protect children against severe illness from measles.
Children are routinely offered the first dose of the MMR vaccine at age one year, and the second dose at 18 months. Just two doses of the vaccine give lifelong protection against measles.
Find out more about Measles on the NHS website. You can also speak to your GP practice if you have any questions or concerns about the vaccine.
