The role of the Mayor
The role of Mayor of Wandsworth is non-political, acting as the civic lead for the borough leading on matters such as chairing of Council meetings, conducting citizenship ceremonies, and meeting foreign dignitaries and royalty. In addition, the Mayor undertakes and supports a wide variety of charitable and fundraising events and the community life in the borough.
Sometimes the Mayor’s Office is sent requests for assistance with operational front-line matters. We regret that we are unable to assist directly with these requests.

The Mayor
Councillor Sana Jafri is an immigration lawyer, equality champion, human rights activist and community worker. She previously served as Deputy Mayor and takes over the role from the previous Mayor, Councillor Juliana Annan.
Councillor Jafri is a mother of two who was born in Tooting and still lives there. She volunteers with local youth groups and charities, campaigns for equality and human rights and has raised funds for St George’s Hospital.
In addition to her previous role as Deputy Mayor, Councillor Jafri served as Chair of both the Wandsworth Agreed Syllabus Conference and the Standing Advisory Council on Religious Education.

The Deputy Mayor
The borough’s Deputy Mayor for the year is Councillor Finna Ayres.
Councillor Ayres is a councillor for East Putney. She is a retired architect and interested in urban planning, affordable housing and accessibility issues.
The Youth Mayor
In 2024, for the first time, a Youth Mayor and Deputy Youth Mayor have been chosen by members of the Wandsworth Youth Council to represent Wandsworth.
Youth Mayor, Millie Quinn, is a youth councillor and a member of the Wandsworth Music Academy, playing viola and piano.
She is passionate about educating young people about the harm of sexual violence and to promote understanding of young people living with poor health.
The Deputy Youth Mayor is Favour Oniri who has an interest in education, community engagement, child poverty and young people’s mental health.

Roll of Honour
Every year the Mayor recognises local people who have volunteered their time to help others via the Roll of Honour award and presents them with a special Wandsworth Mayoral pin.
