River wall improvements 2025

We will undertake repair works to various parts of the river wall near the promontory garden, located close to Albert Bridge.

The works are scheduled to start on Monday 13 January 2025 and will be completed over a 10 week period. The works will be handled by WPH Marine Construction and their subcontractors.

Most of the repair works will be undertaken at the level of the foreshore and are designed to stabilise the river wall against the continuing ravages of severe tidal scour.

A major part of the repair work will necessitate the installation of interlocking sheet steel piles driven into the foreshore in front of the existing wall constructions, supplemented by the placing of concrete toe beams connected to the installed piles to protect and strengthen the base of the affected parts of the river wall.

There will also be the need to rebuild limited parts of the river wall already impacted by tidal scour which have either partially collapsed or have developed large voids behind their surface constructions.

Tree roots growing into the upper levels of the river wall close to the downriver corner of the promontory garden will need to be cut out, and the wall construction reinstated.

A small, fenced compound will be erected on open ground within the park above the level of the repair works. This will enable the contractor to send and subsequently place the concrete required for those works down to foreshore level.
