Employers and the EU Settlement Scheme

The rights of the EU citizens and their family members currently living in the UK haven’t changed. Until the end of the year the current rules, including free movement, will continue to apply. EU nationals will still be able to use their EU passport or national identity card to travel, live, study, work and access benefits and services here, if they are eligible for them.

All EU Nationals and their family members should apply to the EU Settlement Scheme before 31 December 2020 as this is when their rights could change, including access to services or right to work in the UK.

The EU Settlement Scheme is a digital application and there are various resources available to support people who may struggle with applying online. There’s translated guidance on how to apply on Gov.uk and Citizens Advice has published useful information about staying in the UK after Brexit.

The government has also developed the EU Settlement Scheme: employer toolkit to help businesses provide clear and accurate information to current and prospective employees who may need to apply for themselves or a family member.

Citizens Advice Wandsworth works in partnership with Wandsworth Borough Council to offer information and advice about Brexit and related issues to EU residents and to businesses operating in Wandsworth. We help individual residents with issues related to their nationality and deliver events, workshops and outreach sessions for the public and professionals.

If your business is operating in Wandsworth and you employ EU nationals, you can contact Adina Maglan at euadviceservice@cawandsworth.org to organise an information session or to find out more about how we can support you.
