Thousands enjoy bedtime stories

Bedtime stories read by Wandsworth councillors have been viewed around 15,000 times over the last six weeks.
Wandsworth councillors from across the political spectrum were filmed reading aloud household favourites by Julia Donaldson and Axel Shiffler, including The Gruffalo and Room on the Broom.
The councillors wanted to do something fun and positive for the borough’s children who had endured weeks of lockdown. They teamed up with the council’s community engagement team and South West London TV to film the stories. They also put together the behind-the-scenes ‘making of’ video above.
Seven different videos were uploaded to the council’s YouTube and other social media accounts and sent out via schools, libraries and other settings. They have proved a hit with families and will stay on You Tube so anyone who missed them can catch up whenever they want.
Cllr Will Sweet, Cabinet member for education and children’s services said: “I am so pleased that children and their parents enjoyed watching these videos as much as the council enjoyed making them. All the councillors said they had huge fun and it was nice to let the borough’s young people know that we understand how hard it has been for them stuck at home.
“If you haven’t seen the videos yet, take a look, and thank you to all my colleagues on the council for taking part."
