Eco-friendly streetlights upgrade delivers lower carbon emissions

Thousands of street lights on housing estates across the borough are to be upgraded with eco-friendly LED light bulbs that will not only save residents' money but also help the council meet its carbon reduction targets.
As well as using less energy and therefore offering lower running costs, the LED lights also last longer than traditional equivalents and so will deliver additional savings on maintenance and replacement costs.
The new LED bulbs will be fitted to more than 3,000 street lamps on the borough’s housing estates.
Wandsworth’s cabinet member for housing Cllr Kim Caddy said: “These eco-friendly upgrades will not only maintain the excellent standard of street lighting that people have come to expect on our estates but will also mean big saving for our tenants and leaseholders when it comes to the running and maintenance costs.
“LED bulbs are not only much more energy efficient when compared to traditional bulbs but they last a lot longer too.
“And because they use much less energy they will help us meet our climate change targets by reducing our carbon emissions.”
