In a video message Boris Johnson told Vicky Linke, Deputy Headteacher of Chesterton Primary School: "I just wanted to say a massive thank you to you as a teacher for everything you're doing in Chesterton and have been doing throughout this pandemic.“

Vicky said: "Teaching is much more than just delivering a lesson. It's about building relationships with families and being there for families and each other in the rough times and the smooth times as well. So we've been open throughout the pandemic to vulnerable children and to key worker families as well, so we've had to make sure that wherever our children are that they're receiving the best education possible.“

Wandsworth Council cabinet member for education and children’s services Cllr Will Sweet put out his own thank you message last week to all the borough’s schools, teachers, staff, students and parents for their efforts during the pandemic, and launched the borough’s flagship summer holiday programme Summer Unlocked 2020.

“It’s been a difficult time, but I’ve seen incredible examples of innovation across Wandsworth and I know that that’s going to continue during the summer holidays.

“Summer Unlocked will give parents and carers of some children some rest over the summer holiday but it’s also going to give some of our children in the borough a chance to catch up with their learning and enjoy themselves as well after being so patient during lockdown.”
