Big turnout for Employ Wandsworth 2019
Published: Friday, May 3, 2019
More than 750 people went along to last week’s Employ Wandsworth jobs and skills event which proved to be one of the most successful yet.
Fifty businesses were recruiting on the day, and there was standing room only in the Google Digital Garage workshop on CV development, building a personal brand online and self-promotion skills.
The free annual event is organised by Wandsworth Council’s Work Match team. It was aimed at people who live in Wandsworth who want to work closer to home, are returning to work, who want to step up a level or who need help finding the right career.
Visitors could find out about local job opportunities, talk face-to-face with potential employers and can get expert advice. The Interactive Skills Zone was popular, with visitors learning from live demonstrations including barista skills and hair design. Construction skills were demonstrated by a scaffold tower built live in front of crowds.
Many local and regional businesses were returning after successfully recruiting staff at previous events. Shaun Steel, hotel director at Chessington World of Adventures, said: “This is our second year here – we had a very successful event last year which we got several good candidates from.”
Work Match is a free employment support, skills and jobs brokerage, exclusively for Wandsworth residents which matches up people seeking jobs, training and apprenticeships with local vacancies. The Work Match team also offers coaching in the run up to interviews, pre-employment training, guidance with applications, and help to build confidence. So far it’s helped more than 1100 Wandsworth residents into work.
If you couldn’t make it to Employ Wandsworth, you can still get help. Contact the team directly on 020 8871 5191 or email your CV to firstname.lastname@example.org
