Heritage Festival continues

The Wandsworth Heritage Festival 2023 continues this weekend with a tour of Emanuel School and its grounds, a trip down Garratt Lane with Summerstown182 and an open weekend at Wandsworth Prison Museum. The festival runs until June 11.

  • Children's storytime with author Kate Cunningham and her creation Vlad the Flea
  • A talk on apprentices, children and labour in the Wandle Mills
  • The history of the Spread Eagle pub
  • A talk on Marjory Allen and the adventure playground movement
  • A tour of the University of Roehampton
  • A walk on the industrial heritage of the Wandle
  • A tour of the Ram Brewery Heritage Centre
  • A family archaeology drop-in session

The festival is organised by Wandsworth Libraries & Heritage Service alongside many local groups and societies.

Cllr Kemi Akinola, cabinet member for the voluntary sector, business engagement and culture, said: “This year we have extended the Wandsworth Heritage Festival to three weeks because so many people want to be part of it.

The festival comes together each year thanks to the local groups who help preserve and celebrate Wandsworth’s history. Their willingness to share their enthusiasm, knowledge, and is crucial and we hope you will support them by attending some of the great events they have planned.”
