Helping businesses find funds

Local firms looking for sources of finance can get free support and advice at the Access to Finance Wandsworth event on September 26.

Small and medium-sized businesses can go along to the event at the Battersea Arts Centre and find out more at seminars, one-to-one advice sessions and a panel discussion on crowdfunding and alternative finance.
Richard Bearman, managing director of British Business Bank, Start up Loans will open the event with a talk on the current funding landscape for SMEs.
This will be followed by a panel discussion on alternative finance moderated by award-winning business journalist Matthew Gwyther, plus one-to-one meet the funder sessions where you can book a 30-minute session to speak to advisers on topics such as managing cashflow, starting a business (including how to start a business while receiving benefits), crowdfunding and peer-to-peer lending.
There will also be workshops on crowdfunding and advice for social enterprises and charities on writing bids, plus a networking breakfast where business owners get the opportunity to mingle with funders.
Organisations taking part include, Big Issue Invest, Arts Council England, Virgin Start up, NatWest, Funding Circle, Metro Bank, UK Business Angels Association, Funding Options and Crowdcube.
The council’s cabinet member for economic development, skills and employment, Cllr Jonathan Cook said:
“We have seen a huge growth in our small business sector here in Wandsworth in recent years, and we want to make sure the many entrepreneurs and fledging firms get the support they need. There are so many sources of finance available these days, and this event will help businesses and social enterprises navigate through the maze and find the solution that is right for them.”
