Block A
We propose to develop the area at the entrance to the Alton Estate, at the corner of Roehampton Lane and Holybourne Avenue.
The new development, 'Block A', will include a landmark community hub building, a residential building with affordable council homes, and landscaped public realm and play spaces designed to enhance connectivity and leisure for residents.
Community hub
The community hub will serve as a vibrant focal point for local residents, offering improved and integrated services in a modern setting:
- A new adult and children’s library with IT and study spaces
- Bookable meeting rooms and multi-use community spaces
- Youth facilities and a dedicated youth space for The Base
- Council offices and a GP surgery
- Roof terrace and flexible spaces for events and activities
Residential building
The development will include:
- A nine-storey building providing 55 new affordable homes
- A mix of 1, 2, 3, and 4-bedroom apartments to meet local housing needs, including wheelchair accessible homes
- A private communal residents’ garden
Landscape and play space
The external environment will be transformed to create welcoming and inclusive spaces:
- Gateway planting and street trees
- Improved footpaths and cycle stands
- Seating areas and civic spaces around the hub building
- Play areas featuring a tree play house and play sculptures
- Safe, accessible play space design with self-closing gates
