Alton Renewal Plan
The Alton Renewal Plan sets out how we would like to invest in the estate, working together to help this special part of Wandsworth thrive. Since launching this plan in July 2024, we have been delivering the initial phase of renewal projects with new council investment across the estate.
We’ve been listening carefully to your priorities for the place you live and work - feedback from residents, community organisations, businesses, and local stakeholders has helped shape all our plans.
Alton Renewal Plan improvements
The Roehampton area has seen several exciting developments, aimed at improving the quality of life for its residents.
Roehampton Family Hub
Opened in October 2024, the new Roehampton Family Hub on Roehampton Lane is now providing access to free services under one roof.
Services include childcare support, birth registrations, mental health support, after-school activities and dedicated youth room, an IT area, and employment advice.
Employ Wandsworth jobs fair
The Employ Wandsworth jobs fair came to Roehampton on Friday 9 May 2025. The event, held at Whitelands College, brought new employment opportunities to local residents and workers in the area.
Community safety touchdown hub
Together with local police, we have opened a new community safety touchdown hub in the heart of Roehampton which will better help our community safety officers to coordinate safety schemes.
New homes in Roehampton
Residents have moved into new council homes on Fontley Way, and new homes at Putney Vale were finished in autumn 2025.
Find out about the next new homes and community facilities to be delivered at Block A on the Alton Estate.
Focus Hall
Focus Hall reopened in February 2026 as a vibrant cultural space, shaped with local residents through community events. A new programme of creative, social and wellbeing activities is being developed, inviting residents to share ideas and help shape the Hall’s future.
Murals, identity and local pride
A third vibrant mural has been completed on Danebury Avenue, joining others across the estate to brighten the area and celebrate local identity.
Improved signage and new artwork are also being introduced to make the Alton easier to navigate and more welcoming.
Creativity in Roehampton schools
Roehampton schools are taking part in exciting cultural programmes in the Spring 2026 term, including Punchdrunk Enrichment’s 'A Small Tale', which brings storytelling to life. Pupils also contributed to the 'Our Beautiful Neighbourhood' exhibition, while music and therapy sessions are having a noticeably positive impact on student wellbeing.
Improving everyday movement and access
A new accessibility ramp is being added at the Family Hub to support independent access for families and SEND users.
Across the estate, 54 new drop kerbs are being installed to make everyday movement safer and fully step‑free.
Lighting and safety
Safety is being strengthened through new partnerships, community events, a reduced speed limit on Roehampton Lane, and a creative lighting strategy to improve evening visibility.
Shopfront improvements
Chantelle’s Community Kitchen has received a full shopfront upgrade, setting the standard for future improvements. These enhancements aim to support local businesses and create a safer, more attractive local centre.
Community Bluescapes
The Bluescapes project is working to reduce flood risk through nature‑based solutions co‑designed with the community. Four priority sites are now moving into concept design, focusing on sustainable drainage, rain gardens and greener public spaces.
Transport links
As part of the Alton Renewal Plan, we have funded two new free Roehampton bus services, to help improve transport links between Roehampton and the rest of the borough.
Roehampton Transport Club (RTC) - a community minibus to help people who have difficulty using public transport to access local amenities.
The University of Roehampton bus service offered free travel for residents between Putney Bridge Station and Roehampton Vale ASDA from September 2024 and came to an end as planned at the end of the spring term in May 2025. Unfortunately, following a thorough review of the service, the university will not be running the service again from September. However, the Roehampton Transport Club (RTC) continues to be available and can take residents to various locations around the borough and on community outings for free.
