About Bob Marley - Green Plaque site

This Wandsworth Council Green Plaque was erected in partnership with the Nubian Jak Community Trust and celebrates Bob Marley's link to Battersea Park, where he trained and played football. It is placed next to the Wandsworth Council Green Plaque commemorating the first FA Rules game which was played in Battersea Park in 1864.

The plaque was unveiled by Marsha de Cordova MP and H.E. Alexander Williams, who was then the High Commissioner of Jamaica. Dr Jak Beula of Nubian Jak and Jeanne Rathbone of the Battersea Society were MCing, and speakers included Joyce Fraser OBE of the Black Heroes Foundation, historian Kwaku, and friends of Bob Marley who trained with him. Over 150 people turned up to the park to listen to Marley’s music and see the plaque unveiled.

This plaque was funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund as part of Wandsworth's year as London Borough of Culture.
