About Shapurji Saklatvala - Green Plaque site

Saklatvala was an anti-imperialist campaigner for Indian and Irish independence. He was the first Indian Labour MP, and the first Labour MP of colour. He was elected to represent Battersea in 1922.

Speakers at the unveiling included Marsha de Cordova MP; Malcolm M Deboo, President of the Zoroastrian Trust Funds of Europe; and Saklatvala’s biographers, Marc Wadsworth and Dr Mike Squires.

This plaque was funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund as part of Wandsworth's year as London Borough of Culture.
