Biodiversity Action Plan
Wild Wandsworth is our Biodiversity Action Plan for 2026 to 2031.
It sets out how we will turn long‑term ambition from our Biodiversity Strategy into practical action over the next five years.
The plan is based on ecological evidence and community input. It brings together local data on species and habitats with priorities identified by residents, stakeholders and partners. This helps us target action where it can deliver the greatest benefits for wildlife, climate resilience and people's wellbeing.
It focuses on protecting and improving priority habitats and species across the borough, including parks, commons, rivers, wetlands and urban green spaces. It also recognises the role of the built environment in supporting biodiversity.
It embeds biodiversity into planning and development, so nature recovery is delivered alongside growth through measures such as Biodiversity Net Gain and high‑quality green infrastructure.
The plan is built around three core themes:
- Action for nature that is fairer for all
- Action for nature that is compassionate and responds to our community
- Action for nature that is evidence-based and delivers meaningful results
It includes clear objectives, actions and targets, so progress can be monitored and reviewed over time.
By working with partners, communities, land managers and developers, the plan aims to halt biodiversity decline and create a greener, more resilient borough where people and wildlife can thrive.
