Tree maintenance and reporting tree issues
We manage trees in streets, parks, housing estates, and schools.
Surveys
We regularly inspect all trees in streets, parks and on housing estates.
- Street trees are inspected every 2 years
- Trees in parks or housing estates are checked every 3 years
Experienced inspectors carry out these assessments, determining if any work is urgent or non-urgent. They consider the overall health of the tree, including the condition and colour of the leaves, branches, upper crown, and trunk.
Based on this information, a work schedule is created. Sometimes this means a tree must be felled.
Maintenance and tree work
Following the inspections, maintenance works are given to the contractors.
This work includes:
- Reshaping or reducing the crown
- Removing low branches over footways, roads or street lights
- Clearing dead, split or hanging branches
We are not responsible for:
- Shade or loss of light
- Interference with television/satellite signals and private CCTV operations
- Contact with overhead cables
- Branches overhanging neighbouring property
- Prevention of animal and insect droppings, or squirrel access
- Trees perceived as too large
- Seasonal occurrences such as leaf, flower, seed and fruit fall
Tree pruning and removal
Tree surgery is the term used to describe works of a major nature that might be required to either prune or remove a tree.
These works should only be carried out by experienced and qualified tree surgeons who understand trees, all the different species to be found in this country and how best they should be cared for.
Tree surgery also includes removing trees in confined spaces such as over buildings or glass houses or in rear gardens that requires all arisings to be carried through a property as well as removing stumps.
Pollarding
London Plane and Lime trees are pollarded to exiting points means that they are pruned back to previous pruning points or what are called knuckles.
The knuckles have lots of smaller new growth meaning that when it is pruned the ‘wounds’ are smaller and less likely to be susceptible to diseases.
If we were to prune below these knuckles, then it leaves the tree with larger ‘wounds’ which can invite disease into the tree.
This style of pruning is incredibly commonplace with Limes and is an industry accepted form of pruning and management, especially in the urban environment where we must contain the size and the root development to retain healthy mature trees.
Our contractors are of course aware that they must always prune trees adhering to British Industry standards and as tree officers we will only ever specify and issue works suitable to a given tree, considering species, condition, and age.
