Celebrate the King’s Coronation with your community at a range of public events across the borough.
To make sure Coronation celebrations in Wandsworth are as inclusive as possible, the council is working with its partner Enable to put hold events in parks, and has funded a range of community events, as well as waiving fees for street parties.
Battersea Park will be hosting a big screening on Saturday 6 May plus live music and family activities, including a Make Your Own Crown craft workshop. The following day, Sunday 7 May, everyone is invited to take a picnic and join in with the Big Lunch celebrations. There will be live music and special screening of the Coronation Concert.
Big Lunch activities will also be taking place on Sunday and Monday from 11am to 4pm at other parks across the borough, including children’s activities, craft workshops and performances. Go along to
- Furzedown Rec
- Woodfield Pavilion on Tooting Common
- Shillington Park
- The Skylark Café, Wandsworth Common
- Coronation Gardens
The council has also given grant money towards community celebrations including:
- Doddington and Rollo Estate – Music and Entertainment from Riverside Radio, physical activities, arts and crafts and advice from local support groups.
- Alton Estate – Estate Art will be holding a royal singalong and tea party (see flyer below)
- Falcon Estate – Coronation Party in the Kambala Club Room
- Carey Gardens – Coronation Picnic and live screening on the central green
- Putney – Positively Putney will have family entertainment and the Big Help Out Putney Volunteer Village. Find out more
- Putney Vale – family fun day in Newlands Hall
- Tooting – Coronation picnic and big screen showing at St Nicolas Church
- Balham – Big screen showing at St Mary’s and St John the Divine Church
Kemi Akinola, cabinet member for the voluntary sector, said: “We want to make sure everyone is included in the Coronation celebrations, included our older and more isolated residents. We hope everyone enjoys themselves alongside friends and neighbours and other members of our fantastic community here in Wandsworth."
