£1,000 ULEZ boost to help Wandsworth residents give up higher polluting vehicles

Wandsworth Council is offering £1,000 to qualifying local residents who give up, or have recently given up higher polluting vehicles ahead of the expansion of the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ).  

 

As part of the Council’s wider effort to help with the impact of with the Cost of Living crisis, residents most in need of help making the switch to more sustainable means of travel will be able to apply for a £1,000 grant through the Wandsworth Sustainable Travel Fund.

 

The council has set aside £1m from our Cost of Living Fund to support the Wandsworth scheme, which is in addition to support provided by the Mayor of London’s ULEZ Scrappage Scheme. 

 

To be eligible for the Wandsworth Sustainable Travel Fund residents need to: 

 

1.     Live in Wandsworth and own (or have owned) a non-ULEZ compliant vehicle  

2.     Be eligible for qualifying means-tested benefits, or be registered as a carer  

3.     Be able to prove the vehicle has been sold or disposed of since January 2023  

 

Simon Hogg, Leader of Wandsworth Council said: “Switching to more sustainable modes of transport as part of the expansion of ULEZ is at the heart of tackling air pollution – something we know is a real priority for local residents.  

 

“At the same time household budgets are very stretched for everyone, and in particular those on lower incomes.  

 

“Our new Wandsworth Sustainable Travel Fund will provide targeted support to help local people struggling with the cost of living - as well as dedicated, hardworking local carers - make the transition away from high polluting vehicles.” 

 

The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, said: “Following my decision to expand the scrappage scheme to all Londoners last week, I am pleased to see Wandsworth Council providing additional support to local residents transitioning to cleaner vehicles.   

  

“Wandsworth is yet another example of a local authority doing the right thing and stepping up where the Government has failed to provide sufficient funding to London.  

  

“While 90 per cent of cars seen driving regularly in outer London on an average day are already ULEZ compliant, I’m keen we support everyone making the shift to cleaner forms of travel.  

  

“I’m delighted residents in Wandsworth will be getting even more support on top of the scrappage funding we’ve already announced.”
