Community groups can apply for grants to help them supply healthy food to people in need during the Cost of Living crisis.
The Wandsworth Grant Fund is now providing funding to organisations for kitchen equipment such as fridges and cookers that can be used to produce and store food for community food projects benefiting Wandsworth residents.
Voluntary and community groups interested in applying must do so by Monday 14 August 2023.
The new grant is part of the council’s work to create a borough-wide food plan to make sure local people have access to fresh, healthy food as part of its comprehensive Cost of Living response.
Other work includes:
- Providing food in some of the network of Community Spaces
- Drawing up a Schools Food Strategy to ensure children are getting a free hot breakfast and healthy lunches and better food education
- Free school meal vouchers during the holidays, and free lunches as part of the Wandsworth Connected summer scheme for children on free school meals
- Grant funding local groups to provide food schemes, including some targeted at older, isolated people.
Deputy council leader Cllr Kemi Akinola said:
"We believe that food is not a luxury and everyone should have access to a nutritious meal. Supporting our voluntary sector to help us deliver this is key and that’s why this grant is so important. Please get in touch as soon as possible if you want to apply."
