Wandsworth students performing well at core GCSE subjects of maths and English  

Provisional results from nine of the borough’s 11 secondaries show that maths passes rose by seven per cent compared to 2019 – the last comparable year where marking of grades was not influenced by allowances for Covid disruption.

In English pass rates rose by one per cent compared to 2019.

Overall the proportion of Wandsworth pass grades both in English and maths rose by eight percentage points compared to 2019.

The borough’s attainment 8 score increased from 50.8 points to 51.7, while the EBacc entry rate was also up by one percentage point to 63 per cent.

The council’s deputy leader Cllr Kemi Akinola has praised students and teachers for these improved results.

She said she was “so proud” of how well pupils had performed and also offered words of encouragement to those who had not achieved the grades they’d hoped for telling them “don’t worry, there are plenty of ways to get the career you really want and plenty of avenues to get there”.

Wandsworth has some of the best secondary schools in the country with 100 per cent rated good or outstanding by education watchdog Ofsted.
