Community Spaces open again this winter

  • Spaces open around the borough to warm up and meet other people in your community this winter
  • Free hot drinks, free or low-cost food, and plenty of activities available
  • 38 of these spaces funded by the council as part of its wider Cost of Living support

Community Spaces are once again welcoming people this winter to provide a space for all residents to meet new people, grab a hot drink, have a chat, and enjoy various activities on offer.

Wandsworth Council is funding many of the community spaces around the borough, as well as supporting volunteer organisations that are delivering them on their own. A full list of the Community Spaces open around the borough can be found here.

The council hopes that opening these spaces will reduce social isolation that many people may feel around this time of year, as well as being somewhere to go that is warm and safe at a time when energy costs are high.

Since last year, the offer has gotten bigger and better, with more spaces offering more things to do, ranging from arts and crafts to badminton and table tennis.

Deputy Wandsworth Council Leader Kemi Akinola says: “We are pleased that so many spaces are available to all members of our community right around the borough.

“These spaces offer a nice warm and safe space for people to come together with a hot drink, meet new people and connect with their wider community.

“It is also important that people know there is assistance to combat the Cost of Living available to them, such as Citizens Advice, help with energy costs, and mental health support, should they need it.

“I want to extend my thanks to the many volunteer organisations that are running these spaces for people in our community. Wandsworth Council greatly appreciates the work done by all to help us become a more compassionate borough.

“The winter can be a harsh time for many people, so by being able to deliver these spaces and working with volunteer organisations that are out there supporting our residents, is incredibly rewarding.”

This year, Wandsworth Council wants to know how these spaces can be improved for years to come, by offering anonymous feedback via digital or hardcopy forms available at the spaces, to help understand peoples’ experience.
