New Local Plan moves a step closer to adoption

Following a series of public hearings and consultation Wandsworth’s revised “Local Plan” – a planning benchmark for future development - is set to be modified to allow a greater emphasis on building more social rent affordable homes in new developments in the borough.

This new approach to delivering more genuinely affordable homes will mean additional homes becoming available at affordable rents for residents in housing need across Wandsworth.

The Local Plan includes a series of policies and strategies to shape how the borough will grow and develop over the next 15 years.

The plan also focuses on ensuring ambitious plans for growth and development in the borough benefit local people, providing the jobs, opportunities, homes, public spaces, shops, culture and leisure facilities that they need.

And it will be closely aligned with the council’s commitment to become carbon neutral by 2030, including sustainable buildings, clean energy and enhanced public transport links.

Council leader Simon Hogg said: "We have a vision for how to deliver a better borough over the next 15 years with a fairer, more compassionate and more sustainable Wandsworth at the heart of everything we do. This document sets out how we will deliver that vision.

"We will work tirelessly to make sure that Wandsworth retains its reputation as a great place to live, work, play and do business.”

The current draft of the plan has been drawn up following detailed public consultation over many months. This latest version is now subject to a further round of consultation focusing solely on the most recent changes - known as the ‘Main Modifications’. This process will come to a conclusion on March 17th. The result of this final round of consultation will be passed onto the Government’s Planning Inspectorate for consideration in their final report, followed by council ratification of the new Local Plan later this year.
