People whose vehicles will be affected by the expansion of London’s ULEZ scheme later this year are being urged to take advantage of the Mayor’s scrappage scheme which is offering financial support to help residents, sole traders, micro businesses and charities scrap or retrofit vehicles and switch to cleaner modes of transport.
The Mayor has launched a new £110m scrappage scheme to help eligible Londoners replace higher polluting vehicles ahead of the expansion of the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) across all London boroughs from August 29 this year.
The ULEZ expansion and scrappage scheme will help make London's air cleaner by providing grant payments to successful applicants to scrap or retrofit vehicles that do not meet the emissions standards and switch to cleaner, greener modes of transport.
Wandsworth’s Cabinet Member for Transport is keen to ensure Wandsworth residents take full advantage of the scrappage scheme and is urging those eligible for this financial assistance to submit a claim promptly.
Clare Fraser said: “Expanding ULEZ to cover the whole of London should make a huge difference in improving the air we all breathe.
“What’s important now is that all eligible residents, charities and small businesses take advantage of the Mayor’s scrappage scheme and use the financial support it offers to switch to cleaner vehicles.
“But it’s crucial that people apply as quickly as possible. The pot of money available for this is not unlimited and we want to make sure that all Wandsworth residents who want to apply get the maximum benefit.”
The Mayor’s grant scheme is designed to support Londoners on certain low income or disability benefits, eligible micro businesses (up to ten employees), sole traders and charities with a registered address in London. Only eligible applicants with vehicles that do not meet the ULEZ emissions standard qualify for the scheme.
The application process is divided into two sub-schemes, based on vehicle type and applicant.
The ULEZ car and motorcycle scrappage scheme is for Londoners on certain low income or disability benefits with cars, motorcycles and wheelchair accessible vehicles that do not meet the ULEZ emissions standard.
The ULEZ van and minibus scrappage scheme is for eligible sole traders, micro businesses or charities with a registered address in London, to scrap or retrofit a van or minibus that does not meet the ULEZ emissions standard.
The application process will be online, and applicants will need to upload evidence to prove identity and eligibility.
Eligible applicants can get up to £2,000 for scrapping a car or up to £1,000 for scrapping a motorcycle. For wheelchair accessible vehicles there is a payment of £5,000 to scrap or retrofit to the ULEZ standard.
The ULEZ van and minibuses scrappage scheme is open to micro businesses (with up to ten employees), sole traders and registered charities. Your organisation must operate within the 32 boroughs of London or the City of London. Grant payments range between £5,000 and £9,500 to scrap or retrofit a vehicle that does not meet the ULEZ emissions standard.
