Last chance to take part in Great Big Green Week  

Events tomorrow (Saturday June 17) include: 

• The Letters of Tomorrow workshop: Help write the future of the borough and publically declare what is important to you and what climate action you want to see. Free to attend and no need to sign up. Go to Roehampton Library between 10.30am and 12.30pm. 
• CREW does Great Big Green Week: CREW will be at the BACTA Fun Day in Broadwater Road, Tooting from noon to 5pm. Play some eco-games and learn more about renewable energy and energy saving.  
• Planting along Bedford Hill: Join Beautify Balham as they beautify Bedford Hill, Balham with flowers and plants. Email hello@beautifybalham.org.  
• Saturday Gardening: Help out at the Doddington and Rollo Community Roof Garden between 10am and 1pm. All tools provided and you can just drop in.  
• The Big Putney Bike Ride: Join a family group bike ride around the streets of Wandsworth. The seven mile route has been carefully devised and will be marshalled by fully-trained volunteers. Find out more and sign up. 
• Recycled Collage Art Workshop: Learn how to create a stunning paper collage from recycled print materials including old books, magazines, wrapping paper and postcards. Materials provided. Sign up 
• Restart Café: Green the Grid and the Southfields Restart Café invite people with broken electricals and other items to come and get them fixed rather than throwing them away. You can also collect free drought resistant and wildlife friendly plants for your front garden. Free and no sign up required. Go to St Barnabas Church Hall, Merton Road from noon to 3pm.
• Collage Workshop: Join illustrator Jane Porter to make your own individual collage contribution to a giant mural project celebrating our local River Wandle. Free and no sign up needed. Go to Kimber Skatepark, Kimber Road from noon to 3pm.

Great Big Green Week is a national week of community action from 10 to 18 June to tackle climate change and protect nature.  Wandsworth Council gave out 38 Big Green Week grants to faith groups, businesses and residents to run events. Highlights included a farm at Providence House visited by the Dutchess of Edinburgh (pictured below with the Mayor of Wandsworth and local schoolchildren).

Judi Gasser, cabinet member for the environment, said: “What a fantastic week it has been, and we're grateful to all the groups and organisations that took part and everyone who came along. But it's not over yet, so see what's on offer tomorrow and find how you can take part.

We have set tough carbon reduction targets for Wandsworth, and we need to work together to achieve them. The Big Green Week has shone a light on some of the fantastic work going to change minds and behaviours and meet the climate change challenge.”
