Speaking after a meeting last week when a cross-party group of councillors examined the NHS England proposals in great detail, Councillor Hogg said the case to save services at St George’s was now “beyond doubt”.
This comes as the NHS consultation enters its final phase – scheduled to draw to a close on 18 December.
Last week’s meeting was given presentations from St George’s Hospital and the Evelina Hospital in central London. Councillors also heard from parents who have raised significant concerns about the proposed transfer of treatments.
Councillor Hogg said: “The case for maintaining these vital services at St George’s is compelling. St George’s not only has the expertise and know-how that’s built up over 25 years, but also offers a range of other associated services that will be put at risk if the transfer of services goes ahead.
“St George’s has positive, coherent and achievable plans to expand and improve their cancer care services for children. From the evidence that’s been presented, the case for retaining these specialist services in Tooting is very powerful.”
Councillor Hogg, who has written to the Secretary of State with his concerns, has urged residents to respond to the consultation before 18 December to ensure their voices are heard.
