Children attending Franciscan Primary School in Tooting are set to benefit from safer journeys to and from school with plans unveiled for a new zebra crossing next to the school gates.
Councillors are poised to approve plans to install the new zebra crossing when they meet next week.
Jenny Yates, Wandsworth’s Cabinet Member for Transport, said: “Making walking routes to and from schools safer for children and parents is a key aim for the council as part of our Future Streets strategy.
“We want to encourage more families to switch from using their cars on the school run and to walk or cycle instead. Making our streets safer for pedestrians and cyclists and reducing road dangers are fundamental elements of that strategy.
“Having listened to parents and teachers and the wider community in and around Franciscan Primary School, we are now proposing a zebra crossing at this key location.”
If approved, the new crossing will be installed on Franciscan Road, close to the school entrance and near the junction with Chasefield Road. As part of the installation, a number of bike stands would replace one parking space to improve sight lines for pedestrians and make it safer for children when approaching the zebra.
