Wandsworth Council has launched its first Family Hub in Battersea today, to make it easier for families to access and use a wide range of important services.

The pilot Family Hub at the Yvonne Carr centre is designed to create holistic family support under one roof, so families get the right help at the earliest opportunity to improve the lives of children.
The services include midwifery, health visiting, and children’s centre services, and more streamlined access to other new services such as housing support, career advice and much more.
We also hope families will use the hub as a place to visit and spend time with other people from their local community – building connection and reducing isolation.
A key aim of the hub is to support parents to develop good relations both with their children and the people delivering the services and help families get the help they need, when they need it within their local communities.
Sally Murrow – a senior practitioner at the Yvonne Carr Family Hub gave a moving speech about her journey from being a single mother. Sally said:
“I’m delighted to be here today as we launch this Family Hub, first as a parent to play an active part in my children’s early years, and now in a managerial position and supporting families.”
Kafui Brese is from FAST, a charity for young people which works out of Yvonne Carr and he spoke at the launch event this afternoon:
“ It is really great to see the re-opening of Yvonne Carr for what the community needs – we look forward to working together with all our partners across Wandsworth so we can provide a holistic service for our young people.”
Kate Stock, Cabinet Member for Children at Wandsworth Council said:
“We are committed to creating a fairer, compassionate and more sustainable Wandsworth, and this Family Hub is part of our commitment to deliver more integrated services to our residents in a time and place that is more convenient to them.
“By making it easier for local people to seek help and advice, quicker and earlier, we can help more families with whatever issues they are facing before they reach crisis.
“Our approach to opening the Family Hub at the Yvonne Carr centre has been a brilliant example of collaborating with partners, the community and young people to ensure we were building services that respond to the lived experiences of real people.
“We hope to continue to work closely with local parents, partners and young people as the service develops.”
