Adaption and resilience

Climate adaptation is the process, or outcome of a process, that leads to a reduction in harm or risk of harm, or realisation of benefits associated with climate variability and climate change.

Climate resilience is the ability of a system to recover from the effects of climate change. Improving adaptation can lead to greater economic, social, and environmental resilience to climate change.

Understanding your risk

Our climate risk map can be used to understand potential climate-related risks that could impact your business.

By understanding how climate change might affect you, you will be better placed to adapt and increase your resilience.

Green your building

Enhancing or increasing the number of trees, parks, gardens, and living roofs makes areas more attractive to visit and work in. It also helps urban areas become more resilient to extreme weather caused by climate change, preserving economic sustainability.

Greening the BIDs (business improvement districts) is an innovative public-private sector programme that combines the strategic overview of the Mayor with the delivery capacity of BIDs and their members to 'green' business districts in central London.

Any BID, employer partnership, or other owners/managers of public or private estates can undertake a green infrastructure audit with financial support from the GLA.

Create public climate refuges

During extreme weather events, people sometimes need to take refuge in safe places.

For example, during heatwaves, people need reliably cool places to escape the heat and cool down.

Consider if your building could host a climate refuge and how you could publicise this so the public know if and when they are able to access your climate refuge.
