Events code of conduct
At our events we are committed to providing an inclusive, safe and respectful environment for all.
This code of conduct outlines our expectations for behaviour as well as the consequences of unacceptable behaviour. This code of conduct applies to everyone present at Wandsworth Council events, including contractors, exhibitors, speakers, media and attendees.
Principles
We do not tolerate any form of discrimination or harassment, intentional or otherwise towards any person.
The following is a non-exhaustive list of behaviours that we deem unacceptable:
- Offensive comments relating to age, disability, gender assignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex or sexual orientation
- Unwanted physical contact (violent or otherwise), sexual attention or innuendo or intimidation
- Any acts or behaviour that is disruptive to the event. Including but not limited to heckling, interrupting speakers
- Possession or consumption of illegal substances
- Failure to respect the rules or regulations of the venue or health and safety requirements, including smoking in non-designated areas
- Use of inappropriate language, including swearing or shouting at others
Consequences
Anyone asked to stop unacceptable behaviour is expected to comply immediately. Our response to incidents will vary according to the circumstance but may include a combination of the following actions:
- Addressing the incident with individuals(s)
- Informing security personnel on site
- Expulsion from the event
- Referring behaviour to police
- Prevention of future attendance to Wandsworth Council events
Reporting of unacceptable behaviour
Anyone experiencing or witnessing any form of harassment, discrimination or behaviour that makes them feel unsafe or uncomfortable are encouraged to report this to the onsite Event Management team.
For reporting an incident after the event itself, email eventscomms@wandsworth.gov.uk providing as much information as possible.
Support
In the unlikely event of someone being a recipient of unwanted or unacceptable behaviour at our events, we will ensure appropriate support is offered. This may include any of the following actions:
- Providing a safe and confidential space
- Arranging a medical and or mental health response
- Signposting of available services
If you are a member of staff working at the event, you are encouraged to step away from any behaviour that makes you feel uncomfortable or unsafe. Contact the onsite Event Management team for assistance.
