Wandsworth’s Cabinet met this week to make decisions on 200 new council homes in Battersea, the Alton Renewal Plan and the Cleaner Borough Plan.

Battersea Power station – 200 new council homes

Wandsworth Council and Battersea Power Station are working in partnership to build 200 new high quality council homes as part of the development’s 42-acre masterplan.

Cabinet discussed the plans for new council homes, part of the council’s Homes for Wandsworth programme, being built on a currently undeveloped plot within Phase 5 of the Battersea Power Station masterplan, to the east of the Grade II* listed building.

The development will provide well-designed homes for local families at social rent levels, a significant step towards tackling the housing crisis and creating mixed, balanced communities across the borough.

Next steps for Alton Estate Renewal

Cabinet has agreed a series of actions to progress the Alton Estate regeneration following the successful resident ballot. The next steps discussed included commissioning a social impact assessment, progressing the planning application and enabling residents and freeholders to sell their properties to the Council.

Building on the momentum of the ballot result, the largest ballot of its kind with 82% voting in favour, the council are keen to progress with the housing phases of the renewal, while continuing to deliver the wider estate and community improvements.

Cleaner Borough Plan

The Council is committed to delivering a Cleaner Borough for all.

Cabinet has approved funding for the 2026-27 period to continue delivering the Cleaner Borough Plan which is a top priority for the council. The plan has already achieved:

More than 8,200 tonnes of extra recycling have been collected this year thanks to residents’ hard work and the Cleaner Borough Plan.
