The strategy will look at the borough between 6pm and 6am and whether it meets the needs of the people who live, work and play here.

Local people are being asked to comment on what life is like during the night time in their neighbourhoodand across Wandsworth. The council has set up an online, interactive map so that people can drop virtual ‘pins’ on specific locations (like a street corner), and then add their thoughts.  Your views are sought on how you use the area at night – for example if you live, work or socialise there – whether you feel safe, any problems you’ve experienced and what improvements you would like to see.  This could include concerns about street drinking, lighting or transport, or perhaps praise for things that are working well such as a strong sense of community, or suggestions for new late opening coffee shops.

The responses will be used to create a first draft Night Time Strategy, which will be published shortly, and the public will get another chance to comment on that.

Deputy council leader Cllr Kemi Akinola said: “We want to make sure people feel safe in our town centres. Many people work at night, including NHS workers, cleaners and carers, and we want to support them. It’s also important that town centres are as vibrant and resilient as possible, and that there are plenty of opportunities to socialise, eat and drink and enjoy arts and culture.

“It’s a complex jigsaw of issues and we want to hear from as many people as possible. This stage is all about looking at the details of each area and making sure we get a clear picture of how people experience the night time in Wandsworth. That way we can focus on the areas and the issues that people have told us matter most to them.”
