Wandsworth’s most ambitious highway maintenance programme is coming to the borough this year, with over £10million set to be invested in improving roads and pavements. This will be the largest programme of its kind to be designed and delivered within a single year in our borough.

The investment comes as part of the council’s Decade of Renewal, with a £100 million investment in our roads and pavements over 10 years.
By more than doubling the annual investment in maintaining our roads and pavements from £4.75million in 23/24 to £10.25million in 25/26, we will repair and renew pavements, and resurface many of our roads.
This is all part of the Council’s goal to make journeys safer and more comfortable for residents, businesses, and visitors.
Jenny Yates, Cabinet Member for Transport, said: “As a listening Council, we hear it when you say that improving roads and pavements in Wandsworth is a priority.
“This record-breaking programme demonstrates our commitment to improving the borough’s infrastructure and ensuring safer journeys for everyone. By funding this investment through developer levy contributions, we’re delivering value for money while making a significant positive impact on the lives of our residents. We’ll also be replacing street signs, repainting road markings and getting rid of unnecessary signs, to make our streets safer and our neighbourhoods places to be proud of. ”
The initiative prioritises improving safety and accessibility throughout the borough, addressing wear and tear to ensure roads and pavements meet the highest standards. Notification of works will be communicated locally, with measures such as night working where feasible in place to keep inconvenience to residents to a minimum.
As part of our new 7 rings, 7 days guarantee, if you report graffiti, a damaged street sign or a dangerous pothole, we will fix it within seven days. This is part of our commitment to building and maintaining high-quality public spaces and ensuring residents can take pride in their neighbourhoods. Many roads are already scheduled for repair as part of the programme, but any dangerous potholes that are reported will be repaired within a week.
The 7 rings, 7 days guarantee aims to make it easier for residents to get in touch and ensure faster repairs across the borough. Calls to our dedicated 020 8871 6000 number will be answered by a member of staff within 7 rings. A new email address – hello@wandsworth.gov.uk – is also available for residents to get in touch.
