The planned refurbishment will include deep-cleaning the bridges, repainting the surfaces and underpasses, upgrading pigeon proofing measures, jet-washing the brickwork, and adding ‘East Putney’ signage to the exterior of both bridges.
The council will be working in partnership with Network Rail and Transport for London (TfL) to deliver the improvements. As part of wider neighbourhood improvements, the council-led renewal and refurbishment of the East Putney bridges are being paid for with funds the council has collected from property developers, at no cost to local taxpayers.
This is part of our boroughwide programme to improve railway bridges and underpasses to make them brighter, safer and more welcoming, particularly for pedestrians and cyclists.
Jenny Yates, Cabinet Member for Transport, said: “These improvements will make a real difference for everyone travelling through East Putney.
“This investment is part of our Decade of Renewal, improving and refurbishing roads, pavements and bridges - all part of our commitment to making Wandsworth an even better place to live, work, and spend time.”
Work has been scheduled to take place overnight to minimise disruption, in this busy area. The refurbishment will take place between 10pm and 5am for approximately 40 nights, excluding weekends. During this period, a single lane closure will be in place with temporary traffic signals, with the road remaining open at all times.
