Wandsworth residents aged 66 and over are being encouraged to check their eligibility for Pension Credit and other financial support that could increase their income and help with the cost of living.

Residents aged 66 and over should review their eligibility for Pension Credit, as they may find they are entitled to additional financial assistance that they have not yet claimed.

Pension Credit is a means‑tested benefit, designed to boost income for people who are state pension age and on a lower income.

Residents who claim Pension Credit may also receive the Winter Fuel Payment, a free TV licence if you’re 75 or over, cold weather payments, and get help with additional NHS costs, like prescriptions, dental treatment, glasses and transport costs for hospital appointments.

Residents can make a claim online, by post, or by calling the Pension Credit claim line on 0800 99 1234. When applying, residents should have their National Insurance number, details of their income, savings and investments, and bank account details ready.

Apply for Pension Credit

In addition to Pension Credit, residents aged 66 and over who are sick, disabled, or have caring needs may also be eligible for Attendance Allowance. This benefit provides additional financial support for people who need help with personal care or supervision due to illness or disability.

Attendance Allowance can be worth up to £110.40 per week. Claims can be made by contacting the Attendance Allowance helpline on 0800 731 0122.

Angela Ireland, Cabinet Member for Finance, said:

“We know that many residents are worried about rising bills and the cost of living, especially during the winter months. Pension Credit is there to help support people aged 66 or over on lower incomes, but it often goes unclaimed.

“We want to ensure that residents get the support they're entitled to. If you think you might qualify, free support and advice is available, and it only takes a few minutes to check.”
