Regular repair cafes

If you can’t make the Repair Week sessions, there are regular repair cafes taking place across Wandsworth throughout the year.

Repair volunteers come together the second Saturday of each month at St Mary’s Church by Putney Bridge, with the next Putney Repair Cafe planned for 14 March.

Other upcoming events include the Southfields Mend, Fix and Repair Cafe at St Barnabas Church, Lavenham Road, on 25 April, while Restarters Tooting will host a repair hub at St Mary’s Church, Balham High Road on 2 May.

Paul White, Cabinet Member for Environment, said: “Reducing the amount of items we throw away is brilliant for our pockets and for helping to tackle climate change. By repairing and reusing stuff from household items to clothes, we can save ourselves money and be more sustainable.

“Many items which are thrown away because they are broken only need a minor repair to be as good as new. Repair Week is a great opportunity to pick up new skills, connect with your community, and give items a second life.”

Wandsworth Council is committed to reducing waste, increasing recycling rates – with the council collecting 25 per cent more recycling since 2022/23 - and meeting our goal of becoming a carbon neutral council by 2030.

Supporting events like Repair Week is just one of the ways we are achieving this.A worker at Rework London fixes a household item

Rework at Smugglers Way Reuse and Recycling Centre

If you’ve got an item you don’t need, and don’t want to mend and keep, why not donate it to the Rework Workshop at Smugglers Way?

There it will be repaired and passed onto charities, with refurbished white goods sold to the public online.

The workshop will accept the following items in good cosmetic condition:

  • Home furniture (e.g. bed frames, sofas (with fire certificate), tables, chairs, cupboards and drawers)
  • Large domestic appliances/white goods (e.g. fridges, washing machines, tumble driers and cookers) and microwaves. Even if they are no longer working, it may be possible for them to be repaired on-site and passed on for reuse.
  • Small electrical Items (hairdryers, toasters, kettles).  These must be in working order for them to be reused.  If they are not working, please place them in the Small Electricals container for recycling.
  • Bicycles
  • Sports equipment
  • Bric-a-Brac
  • Toys
  • Tools

You can also hire household items from social enterprise Library of Things, based in the Southside Centre, with sewing machines, drills, steam cleaners and sanders among kit to help you repair at home.
