This summer there’s loads for children and families to do to keep boredom at bay over the holidays.
Children receiving free school meals will be invited to book places on Wandsworth Connected: Holiday Activity and Food (HAF), a big programme of free activities with a free lunch included, run by the council in partnerships with community organisations. This includes The Big Play Out in Battersea Park. Find out more.
250 tickets to the Tooting Bec Lido are available each day to Wandsworth residents on means-tested benefits as part of the council’s Access for All scheme. The scheme also includes free gym and swimming sessions and other sports activities at council-run leisure and sports centres. Find out more.
There are also activities that all families can enjoy. Playtopia is a two-day extravaganza for children on August 3-4 in Battersea Park. Find out more.
Libraries will have a full programme of events throughout the summer, including storytimes and craft sessions. Children can also take part in the Summer Reading Challenge to read six books across the holidays. Find out more.
And our Family Information Service website has a searchable directory of events across the borough this summer. Take a look at the Things to Do section.
Cabinet member for Children Kate Stock said: “Access for All is about ensuring no-one in Wandsworth misses out on what the borough has to offer. We would encourage all families in receipt of means-tested benefits to find out what free fun is on offer this summer.
“And we want all families to get out and about and enjoy the summer. Keep an eye on the Family Information Service directory, and we’ll also post regular updates on our social media feeds of things going on round the borough.”
