A major landmark has been reached for the latest development in the council’s own homebuilding programme.

This week, Randall Close – which is the largest development in the Homes for Wandsworth programme – officially ‘topped out’. This marks the completion of external works to the building and signals the start of the final phases of development.

Aydin Dikerdem, Cabinet Member for Housing, visited the site on Wednesday 9 July to celebrate the achievement. He said:

'We know that nothing is more important for a decent start in life than having a decent home, so I am pleased to see that housing and development, especially social housing, will play a huge part in the new government’s plans for the future.

“At Wandsworth, we have been a leader in this field with our ambitious Homes for Wandsworth programme, which is delivering 100% council housing. We want to tackle the housing crisis at the sharpest end, providing support to those who need it most.

“Randall Close will deliver a significant portion of our 1,000 homes target and it is encouraging to see the progress being made.”

Homes for Wandsworth will deliver over 1,000 new council rent homes including larger family homes and supported housing to cater to a range of needs. Randall Close will contribute 106 homes in total, including 11 wheelchair accessible homes along with wider estate improvements, and new public and play spaces

It is anticipated that the development will be completed in early 2025.

Harvey Dhami, Regional Director at The Hill Group, the council’s development partner for this project, said:

“I am proud to be standing here today with our partners at Wandsworth Council as we top out Randall Close.  This project will provide much-needed affordable homes for the local community, incorporating durable designs and energy-efficient features that will help to keep resident’s bills low.”
