Wandsworth Armed Forces Day 2023

We appreciate the dedication to duty and the sacrifices made by our armed forces, both past and present, and we strive to support and promote members of this community as much as we can.

Having been first awarded the Defence Employer Scheme Gold Award by the Ministry of Defence in 2018, Wandsworth has had its award renewed for another five years.

The Gold Award is the highest badge of honour an organisation can receive, demonstrating the Council’s long-term commitment to the armed forces and employing and supporting those who serve, veterans and their families.

Councillor Rex Osborn, Wandsworth Council’s Conservation and Heritage Champion, said:

“Receiving this award again demonstrates the Council’s ongoing commitment to the armed forces community, who dedicate their lives to service and sometimes pay the ultimate sacrifice.

“We support and promote our reservists, cadets, veterans and their families and ensure they are fairly treated, and it is a privilege to have this recognised by the Ministry of Defence.”

In order to achieve the Gold standard, employers must sign up to the Armed Forces Covenant, ensuring policies align with the values of the Employer Recognition Scheme, and by demonstrating their forces-friendly credentials through recruitment and engagement.

This Sunday (7th), we will be hosting Wandsworth Armed Forces Day at Battersea Park, where we will celebrate Wandsworth residents past and present who have dedicated their lives to National Service.

There will be opportunities to meet local military and cadet squadrons and groups, challenge yourself and your friends with our assault course, enjoy music from a military band, marvel at military vehicle displays.

As part of our Summer In programme, we will also be hosting the ever-popular Battersea Park Dog Show.
