Re:Create is Wandsworth Council’s bespoke business support programme for creative businesses, devised and delivered in partnership with Creative United. This project has received £34,000 from the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. The call-out for this year’s applications was launched on 24 June at the iconic Half Moon grassroots music venue in Putney.
One of the aims of Wandsworth’s year as London Borough of Culture is to be a launchpad for our creatives onto a national and international stage. Re:Create is a vital part of this ongoing work to grow the local artistic and creative business sector and foster the next generation of artists, creatives and makers.
Re:Create is now open to any creative entrepreneur – such as artists, makers, designers, musicians and creative business owners – based in the borough of Wandsworth. Apply by 5pm on Friday 29 August.
First piloted in the borough in 2021, Re:Create is back for its fourth year, providing a welcome boost to creatives. Offering a programme of bespoke creative industry business mentoring, training, networking and an e-learning toolkit, Re:Create has proved transformative.
Illustrator, graphic designer and artist, Krystal Wong, who took part in last year’s Re:Create programme said: “The guidance [through Re:Create] has helped me carve a clear plan for my business and I now feel I have the tools to build my business with confidence and insight. In the few months I had with my mentor I progressed with my business more than I had in a whole year.”
Sarah Thirtle, Director of Strategic Development at Creative United said: “Balancing creative output with the demands of running a business can be a tough call. That’s why Re:Create is designed with tailored support from industry experts to help Wandsworth creatives flourish and thrive long-term. We’re delighted to be back in Wandsworth for a fourth year to celebrate and champion more of the borough’s creatives as it celebrates its year as the London Borough of Culture.”
Deputy Leader of Wandsworth Council Kemi Akinola said: "As London Borough of Culture, it's incredibly important that in Wandsworth we nurture our creatives and give them the support they need to grow and thrive. Re:Create is a fantastic scheme with a proven track record, so we would encourage artists and creative businesses to explore how it could help them."
Applications to be part of the programme are open until 29 August 2025. A total of 40 creative businesses will then be selected to receive four hours of individual coaching and advice from industry experts in the Autumn.
Alongside specialist mentoring for the chosen cohort, the Re:Create programme also provides all creative businesses based in the borough with the chance to broaden their networks and skills, through events and free access to a bespoke e-learning toolkit.
An evaluation of last year’s programme showed an estimated additional £100,000 generated across the cohort as a result of their participation in Re:Create.
