Wandsworth’s children’s services department has created a new and dedicated online channel to help young people navigate the local services aimed at supporting them.

This new section of the borough’s family information service website will help young people and their families identify services relevant to them in their local area, such as holiday programmes, youth participation services, activities and youth clubs.

The site also provides links to a number of online health resources provided by NHS partners and a link to local groups like the Scouts, Guides and Woodcraft Folk. A map details each club’s location ensuring that young people and their families can easily identify and access services local to them.

The site also highlights the services offered by the borough’s vibrant community and voluntary sector youth organisations which support young people.

Providing easy access to great local community provision will help young people re-engage with their peers by offering them the chance to socialise and learn through opportunities which were impacted during the pandemic.

Wandsworth has a long history of investing heavily in youth services. A recent nationwide survey carried out by the YMCA on spending per head on children aged between five and 17 found that Wandsworth had the fourth highest spend of all the London boroughs – and the 13th highest in the whole of England and Wales.

Children’s services spokesman Cllr Will Sweet said: “We want Wandsworth to be the best place in the country for a child to grow up.

“Every child should have a good start in life, experience a positive childhood and be able to benefit from all the stepping stones that can help them develop as a person and become a happy, successful and accomplished adult.

“We have a vibrant and exciting range of youth clubs and youth spaces in Wandsworth, which help to provide some of these stepping stones to adulthood. They offer safe social learning environments where children and young people can grow and thrive. These are all easily accessible on this new digital channel and I would urge young people and their parents to check it out.”
