Social Work Week, which takes place from 17-21 March, serves as a vital reminder of the essential role social workers play in transforming lives.
Last year, we were awarded Supportive Social Work Employer of the year in recognition of our commitment to developing the careers of our social workers, ensuring that children and families receive the highest quality support through a highly equipped, skilled, and compassionate workforce.
The Social Worker of the Year Awards is the premier national event celebrating excellence in social work across England. Each year, it highlights the dedication, creativity, and compassion of social workers.
Kate Stock, Cabinet Member for Children, said: “Social Work Week provides an opportunity to celebrate and shine a spotlight on the social work heroes who work tirelessly to make a real difference in the lives of our most vulnerable residents.
“I was delighted to join today’s Parliamentary reception with many of our inspirational social workers to highlight their successes, reflect on all the previous worthy winners and officially kick off the 2025 awards.”
At Wandsworth, alongside dedicated children’s social workers, the council proudly employs over 25 multi-disciplinary practitioners, including domestic abuse specialists, parental substance misuse experts, mental health practitioners, clinical psychologists, and family therapists. This integrated workforce is supported by family support practitioners, youth workers, early years practitioners, and family connectors, ensuring timely intervention and high-quality support for children and families in need.
The recognition at the Parliamentary reception not only celebrates Wandsworth’s achievements but also underscores the critical role of social workers in transforming lives. As the 2025 awards launch and Social Work Week is celebrated, Wandsworth remains committed to fostering excellence in social work, ensuring that every child and family receives the compassionate support they deserve.
