Got an exciting idea for a sustainability-focused project that can make a difference in your community?
You can apply for a grant worth up to £500 to make your green ambition a reality, through Wandsworth’s Climate Action Microgrants programme - which supported 60 community and school projects over the past year.
Open to community groups, charities and individuals, applications for the next round of Climate Action Microgrants are welcomed until 27 March.
Tree and wildflower planting, repair cafes, an upcycled fashion show, film screenings and talks, and gardening workshops are just a few of the projects funded so far by the scheme.
The grants provide community groups, charitable organisations and individuals with funding from £100 to £500 for projects focused on climate change and sustainability.
Paul White, Cabinet Member for Environment, said: “Wandsworth’s Climate Action Microgrants programme has given a boost to an array of inspiring projects focused on sustainability in our local communities.
“We’re excited that our microgrants have been a catalyst for 60 green community and school projects to get off the ground in the past year, bringing people together to learn, share ideas and make a difference across Wandsworth.
“You could make your idea a reality too, whether that’s helping teach repair skills, transforming a forgotten space into a green oasis or running a climate event focused on more sustainable energy and transport.

Community successes
Wandsworth’s climate action microgrants have been supporting some fantastic community projects, such as a garden transformation at Fayland Children’s Centre, where Furzedown Community Network and the 4th Streatham Sea Scouts joined forces for the makeover.
A pilot project from the Friends of Wandsworth Common and Beautify Balham is helping increase biodiversity with wildflower planting, while schools including Sacred Heart in Battersea and Ark Putney Academy received a boost for their garden clubs.
Inspiring local people around the power of collective action, sustainability-focused group Transition Town Tooting joined forces with community energy groups CREW Energy, Pop Energy and Thinking Works to host a film screening and discussion.
Around 70 people came together for the screening of Power Station – a documentary charting the compelling mission by two artists to transform their London street using solar power – before sharing ideas on harnessing community energy.
“It sparked a lot of interesting conversations,” says Hilary Jennings, one of the founders of Transition Town Tooting.
“The film was brilliant inspiration because it proved how the power of taking action connects people in their local area and can have huge knock-on effects.
“We’re purely volunteer-run and survive on very little but there are always costs, so the grant meant we could put on the film publicly and help bring people together over an important issue.”
We’ve helped directly fund 47 community projects in 2025/26 through our Climate Action Microgrants programme, plus another 13 projects in schools.
These included the first ever Southfields Yard Sale Trail, and the Balham Big Green Fair, as part of Wandsworth’s Sustainable September.
How do I apply?
It’s easy to apply for a Climate Action Microgrant to support your inspiring ideas for projects around climate change and sustainability.
We’re looking for projects that engage the community with the environment.
That could mean helping reduce pollution and improving air quality or encouraging sustainable skills such as repair, upcycling, and energy saving.
Other ways your project could make a difference are through improving biodiversity and local nature conservation or helping people and nature adapt to climate change.
You can submit your project through our online application form, or share a spoken video application with us by emailing togetheronclimatechange@wandsworth.gov.uk
