Live in the Winstanley Neighbourhood in Battersea and have an idea for a sustainability-focused project that can inspire change in your community?

Soon you’ll be able to apply for a grant worth up to £500 through Wandsworth’s newly-launched Winstanley Neighbourhood Green Community Grants programme.

Following the success of our popular Wandsworth Climate Action Microgrants programme, we have now extended the funding to specifically support projects within the Winstanley Neighbourhood as part of the Winstanley Neighbourhood Regeneration Plan.

This sets out our ten-year commitment to delivering meaningful, place-based investment that provides real and lasting impact to the day-to-day lives of local people.

We want to help back locally-led climate action initiatives, providing small scale funding to help local green projects get off the ground or grow existing projects.

Anyone living or working in the Winstanley Neighbourhood can apply for a microgrant for their idea, which could range from planning a sustainable street festival or growing an urban micro forest, to running a repair workshop or hosting an event on climate justice.

You can apply as an individual, a community group or a charity to run events or activities that promote positive community action around climate change and sustainability.

The Winstanley Neighbourhood includes:

Paul White, Cabinet Member for Environment, said: “We’re excited to launch this new green community funding dedicated to the Winstanley Neighbourhood.

“Wandsworth’s Climate Action Microgrants programme has already supported a huge range of projects focused on sustainability that have made a difference in our local communities.

“It’s important that we embed sustainability into the area’s growth as part of delivering the Winstanley Neighbourhood Regeneration Plan, and the local community is crucial to that.”

A community panel will help influence the grant awards, and you can find out more or get involved by emailing togetheronclimatechange@wandsworth.gov.uk

Wandsworth Sustainability Network

The new Winstanley Neighbourhood Green Community Grants programme was launched at the most recent Wandsworth Sustainability Network event.

The 10th forum was focused on community action around sustainability, with more than 80 local people gathering to share knowledge and ideas, as well as learn how microgrant projects have given a green boost to the borough.

A vibrant panel included Roehampton Community Green Team and Our Roehampton representatives Vicky Pigott and Noreen Meehan, who shared how their microgrant helped bring together different generations to green part of the Lennox Estate, alongside young people from local charity Regenerate.

Fozia Riaz, the founder of Happy Homes, showcased how the council grant support had helped support eco learning and repair workshops, while Roehampton Wellbeing for Women and Children’s Asma Choudhry gave an insight into the group’s community eco fair.

More than 80 local people attended the event, sharing their ideas and views on sustainability and having chance to meet our biodiversity, air quality, climate change, waste and Homes for Wandsworth teams.

They were joined by partners including the Battersea Society, Transition Town Tooting, South Thames College, GreenMark and A Greener London for the forum.

“I’m speaking with people of all ages, different backgrounds,” said Omar Reeves, from South Thames College’s Net Zero Hub. “It’s just great to network and hopefully work together.”

Battersea resident Liz Worthen attended the Wandsworth Sustainability Network for the first time, highlighting the “buzz” at the event at York Gardens Library on 24 February.

“I’m looking forward to finding out what’s going on in my locality,” she said.

Meanwhile, Elaine Michel, from the Battersea Society, added: “It’s great to meet other like-minded people at the sustainability network.”

Attendees also had chance to hear about our new Biodiversity Action Plan, Wild Wandsworth, as well as how sustainability is embedded in the development of our Homes for Wandsworth programme.
