Running this spring from 13 – 29 March, the campaign encourages residents, schools, community groups and businesses to get involved in cleaning up their streets, parks and open spaces.
Our streets are already cleaner thanks to recent council initiatives. Residents have made good use of the two free bulky‑waste collections each year, with 29,000 bookings already made and a 20% reduction in fly‑tipping across the borough.
Supporting community cleanups
To support community groups wishing to take part, Wandsworth Council is offering to loan equipment to community groups and residents who want to organise activities such as litter picks and community tidy-ups.
Alongside support for community-led clean ups, Wandsworth’s Cleaner Borough strategy is helping to create a cleaner and more sustainable borough. This includes:
- increased town centre cleaning
- guaranteed weekly rubbish and recycling collections
- new recycling enclosures on estates
- improved Christmas tree recycling services
- increased collections for flats above shops.
Paul White, Cabinet Member for Environment said:
"Wandsworth is home to beautiful green spaces, vibrant neighbourhoods and passionate communities. The Great British Spring Clean is a fantastic opportunity for residents to come together, make a difference locally, and help keep our borough clean, green and welcoming.”
“This campaign aligns with the council’s wider commitment to improving the local environment, reducing littering, and increasing pride in our borough.”
