Conservative gain in West Putney by-election

The Conservatives have gained a council seat in West Putney following yesterday’s (Thursday’s) local ward by-election.

Conservative candidate Nick Austin won the seat with 45 per cent of the votes cast.

The full results are:

Nick Austin (Conservative) 2,839 

Jane Briginshaw (Labour) 2,350

Mark Lejman (Lib Dem) 635

Fergal McEntee (Green) 438

Turnout was just under 52 per cent of the eligible electorate.

The by-election was held following the resignation of former Councillor Claire Gilbert.
