Leader of the Council, Councillor Aled Richards-Jones, said: “Celebrating Pride Month is a longstanding part of the Council calendar here at Wandsworth. We're fully committed to supporting and celebrating our community’s LGBTQ+ members and families. Wandsworth is a special place to live and work, and its diversity is one of its strengths. We want everyone who lives here to feel safe, included and valued.”
Queer Wandsworth is a free outdoor exhibition on Totterdown Street sharing stories of LGBTQ+ lives in Wandsworth both past and present.
There is the opportunity to do a self-guided walk in the footsteps of Wandsworth’s queer history on the Queer Wandsworth: Heritage Trail where you can explore significant locations around the borough.
Or alternatively, you could join a guided tour like the Queer Putney walk to learn about art and activism in the area or the Queer Battersea walk exploring protest and performance.
There will be a series of events in libraries around the borough, including crafts, author events and story times, including creative writing workshops with Jack Strange at Balham Library and Southfields Library and a talk from The Light of Day author Christopher Stephens.
And on Saturday 20 June Battersea Park will host Wandsworth Family Pride, featuring a series of free live performance as part of the Summer in Battersea Park festival.
Wandsworth council is an inclusive employer, and LGBTQ+ staff members will be taking part in this year’s Pride March. The council also offers year-round support to LGBTQ+ residents, including signposting sources of support for young people.
