- Consultation to reduce Council Tax bills closes on 15 November.
- The council is proposing improvements to the current scheme which will help thousands more residents.
- Part of the council’s plan to help residents during the Cost of Living crisis.
Residents have just one more week to have their say through the public consultation on the Council Tax Reduction Scheme.
Wandsworth Council is proposing improvements to the Council Tax Reduction (CTR) Scheme which will help thousands more residents in the borough.
The CTR scheme reduces Council Tax bills for households on low incomes. The proposed change will reduce the impact of income fluctuations within a household, be clearer and easier to understand for residents and will protect the most vulnerable residents by reducing bills.
The proposed scheme is just one part of the council’s response to the cost-of-living crisis. In conjunction with this, the council has frozen the main element of Council Tax this year and launched a £10 million fund, the largest in London.
The council is keen to hear from more residents about how they would like to see their Council Tax bill reduced.
Angela Ireland, Cabinet Member for Finance said: “We’ve already got some really good feedback from residents in the borough, but we still want to hear from more people who this will affect.
“The consultation is a great opportunity for people to make a meaningful contribution to their tax bill for the coming year.
“The proposed changes to the scheme will ensure the most vulnerable residents in our community are looked after during the Cost of Living crisis.
“Residents' input into this consultation will move us further towards being a fairer, more compassionate borough.”
