Southern Gas Networks (SGN) has informed Wandsworth Council that it must urgently replace the gas pipe network located between Algarve Road and Magdalen Road. The old metal pipes will be replaced with new plastic pipes to ensure SGN continues to provide a safe and reliable gas supply to the local area.
SGN engineers started work on Monday 28 October. The works have become urgent due to an increased number of leaks in the area over the past few weeks where residents and businesses had to be evacuated from their properties. SGN and Council officers are working closely to minimise disruption as much as possible.
To safely complete this work, SGN has informed us it must close Penwith Road at its junction with Garratt Lane. In addition, Duntshill Road will be made one-way with vehicles able to exit onto Garratt Lane only.
SGN will also install temporary traffic signals at the junction of Earlsfield Road and Garratt Lane.
Magdalen Road will be closed at the junction with Garratt Lane and a crossing will be installed for the safety of the pedestrians approaching Earlsfield Station.
Diversions will be signposted, and access will be maintained for residents and businesses.
Please check your local bus provider to see if this work has affected the bus stop, route, or times of your bus.
