The remarkable dedication of Wandsworth’s foster carers was celebrated at the Council’s annual reception earlier this month.
The event shone a spotlight on those who have made a profound impact in the lives of children across the borough, with a special awards ceremony recognising their exceptional contributions.
This year’s reception aligned with National Kinship Care Week, which highlights the vital role kinship carers play in supporting children and strengthening communities.
Mayor Sana Jafri and Cllr Kate Stock, Cabinet Member for Children, were among the guests celebrating the carers. Cllr Stock expressed her gratitude, stating: “As foster carers, you are helping to build the foundations of equality, diversity, and inclusion, creating an environment where our children can thrive. Whether you've cared for a child for a night or many years, you offer them safety, love, and a sense of belonging.”
Valerie Alexander shared her experience, saying: "Fostering has allowed me to bring out my natural caring and protective instincts for a child. It is a wonderful privilege to be able to make positive memories no matter how small because it will make a big difference. I receive so much pleasure and gratitude having my, now older, children visit for dinner or conversations. The reward is priceless.”
