At Wandsworth Town Station, work remains on schedule to deliver a fully step-free station by summer 2027, with new lifts going in for all four platforms and a new second entrance with a modern ticket hall at Odyssey Way.

Piling works are nearly finished for the new lifts, so that the lift shafts can start to be installed.

The station is remaining open throughout while the works are going on.

Once complete, the improvements will make journeys easier for people with reduced mobility, parents with pushchairs and passengers travelling with luggage. The new Odyssey Way entrance will also improve access to the station from the north and provide new ticket barriers.

Better station access

The progress at Wandsworth Town comes as passengers in Battersea have gained better access to Queenstown Road Station.

A long-awaited second entrance has now opened on Patcham Terrace, providing quicker access to the station for people living in Nine Elms and Battersea. The new entrance also helps people change more quickly between Battersea Park station and allows passengers to avoid busier roads on their journeys to the station.

The Queenstown Road entrance was secured through a planning agreement with local developers, agreed around a decade ago.

Cllr Nick Austin, Cabinet Member for Transport, said: “It’s great to see real progress being made at our rail stations, helping people get around more quickly and easily.

“These improvements are part of wider investment in local infrastructure, providing better transport options for our growing town centres.”
